Hi again everyone. How are you all doing? Last time I wrote to you I’d just had an exciting adventure exploring London with Mummy and Aunt Lucy. Well, this time I’m writing to tell you about my latest adventure, going further than I’ve ever gone before. I went to a whole other country. I went to France.
The adventure began before we’d even got to France – an early morning start (no trouble for me!) and a drive down to a place called Portsmouth. Then we got on a Boat. It was huge. But there were other boats we didn’t get on that were even more huge. To be honest, I found the whole thing a little overwhelming so after taking it all in I decided I might as well have a snooze. The return trip on the boat was rather more fun, but more on that later.
After lunch (one of Mummy’s yummy packed lunches for me) we drove to our little home for the week. Apparently homes in France, when you’re on holiday, are called gites, and ours was very fun. There were 2 proper flights of stairs, and a few other small sets so I spent lots of time exploring them. I even made use of the small flights to practise going back down, but I had limited success and tended to stick with going up, especially when Mummy and Daddy seemed not to be looking. They always found me before I got too far however. I’ll keep working on that.
On our way to the gite we stopped off at a supermarket. I do love supermarkets, although it turns out I’m not allowed to take things off the shelves in French supermarkets either. The main things you can buy in French supermarkets are wine and pastries, as far as I can tell. Mummy seemed very pleased with the wine selection and bought far too much. We ended up bringing quite a few bottles home with us.
Over the week we went on day trips to see things that were interesting to Mummy and Daddy. There was a big hill covered in buildings which we had to walk over a thing called a boardwalk to reach. And a place with lots of very loud bells. I didn’t like the bells very much but did enjoy the cuddles with Mummy as we walked round. And we went to a big fort. We also explored some towns. Exploring for Mummy and Daddy doesn’t seem the same as exploring when I do it. They tended to look at things but didn’t take them apart to study them, or see what they tasted like – a bit half-hearted if you ask me.
Mummy provided all my food during the holiday, but she and Daddy ate at what they called restaurants, where someone other than Mummy prepares the food and clears up (although Mummy still cleared up after me). Daddy ate a lot of steak, which I think is his favourite, while Mummy seemed to eat pancakes and nothing else. She said they were called galettes and crepes. I thought pancakes were only for breakfast but maybe not.
During our holiday Mummy and Daddy had to speak in a foreign language to other people. Daddy says he’s better at it than Mummy. Certainly people seemed to respond to Mummy in English but spoke the other language to Daddy. I think maybe that’s why Daddy came with us, and to do the driving of course.
At the end of our busy week we got the boat back home. This time I stayed awake and ate a yummy lamb curry for dinner. Daddy stole most of my lamb. And as it was a long boat journey, I had time to explore. I raced around the boat and everyone who saw me said nice things about how quickly I was going.
So I’ve done my first trip to another country. It was fun but I’m also pleased to be home and in my own bed again. Mummy says normal routine starts tomorrow, which means fun things like sing and sign, which is my favourite. Bye for now!
