Do you like to be in control? I do. Don’t get me wrong, I love surprises (as long as I don’t know they’re coming) but I also like to know what to expect from my day and I like to have plenty of say in what happens during it. I like to be able to do something about the things that worry me. I’m definitely not the sort of person who can put worries to one side just because there’s absolutely nothing I can do at that point in time to influence them. My husband finds that bizarre. He’s the opposite – if he can’t change something at a given moment, then he simply puts it out of his mind until he can change it.

Happy Ash Wednesday to you all! I hope all my readers ate too many pancakes and enjoyed celebrating Shrove Tuesday yesterday. We had a very pancake-y dinner at home with crispy duck pancakes for our main course followed by more pancakes for pud. And after the fun of Shrove Tuesday, here we are, in Lent. Last Sunday was a pretty exciting day for me. Not because of our little family trip to the Great Brick Safari at Wisley Gardens (although that was good fun), but because I preached a sermon for the first time. I say “for the first time” as I’m hoping that I might be asked back at some point. I mean, it was definitely one of the more nerve-wracking things I’ve done, but once I was standing up there, notes in hand and looking out at the supportive faces of lots of lovely people from my church, I actually had a lot of fun.
